Welcome to the dramaturgical website for the University of Pittsburgh Stages' (U.P. Stages) production of Rhinoceros, written by Eugène Ionesco, translated by Martin Crimp, and directed by Claire Syler.
This site is created and managed by the dramaturgical team on the team: Kristin O'Malley and Val "Jay" Gerard Garcia, Jr.
Our goals, as dramaturgs, include supporting the text as well as the vision of the writer, director and designers; igniting the imagination of the actors; contextualizing the given circumstances of the script; supporting the consistency of the world of the play through pre-production, rehearsal and production; facilitating familiarity with the writer, her work and the intricacies of this script; connecting themes of the production with local, community resources.
The dramaturgy team created this website for the company and production team of U.P. Stages' Rhinoceros. Both of us hope this weebly will serve as a tool to enlighten the audience members as well. We will see you at the show!
